Jury

Calvin Walker

  • Calvin Walker is an award-winning writer/producer hailing from Richmond, Virginia and living in Los Angeles. Calvin’s short film, Virginality, recently took home the win for Outstanding Comedic Digital Short at the Micheaux Film Festival. As a lover of strong character and world creation, Calvin can attribute his passion for telling the stories of marginalized folks to watching some of his favorite series: Watchmen, Pose, and Women of the Movement. When he’s not watching his favorite shows or movies, Calvin likes spending time with those closest to him - friends and family from whom he says he draws most of his creative inspiration.

Shannon Vossler

  • One part story architect, one part language alchemist, Shannon Vossler is an Emmy-winning, flannel-wearing, coffee-guzzling kind of gal who can produce the heck outta some video, television and film.

The first decade of her career was spent dreaming up new series concepts for major cable networks, bopping back and forth between Boston, New York, and DC to develop millions of dollars worth of content. Her stint with This Old House Productions/Time Inc and the non-profit Homes For Our Troops earned her a National Daytime Emmy Award in 2015 for Outstanding Lifestyle Program.

She’s interviewed scientists and CEOs. Princesses and preschoolers. Cancer patients and circus performers. And she immersed herself within subcultures to find unexpected human narratives, from the woods of northern Maine to the bowels of Wrigley Field.

Though her work has won Emmys, Tellys, MarComs, and Webby noms, she feels her greatest achievement has been capturing emotional and cherish-able moments on film, helping to create immortal legacies for those in front of her lens.

Sarah Gough-Piazza

  • Sarah Gough-Piazza began her work in film as an intern for Second Line Studios in New Orleans, LA, She then graduated with her Master’s in Cinema Studies from the Savannah College of Art and Design, focusing her research on gendered stereotypes relating to women in Modern Arthouse Horror cinema. While at SCAD, she became a Programming Intern with the Nashville Film Festival. Since graduation, she has moved to Memphis and continues her work as a screener for the Nashville Film Festival as well as becoming a Submissions Coordinator at the IndieMemphis Film Festival.
